The starter carving kit includes everything you need to make a spoon as well as many other future projects. These are the exact tools I used to get started.
The three carving tools are made in Japan and selected specifically for the process of making a spoon. The blank is prepared for you, so you can skip the intimidating first step of finding suitable timber and figuring out how to cut it down. Included is everything you need to make your first spoon and maintain your tools.
The starter carving kit makes a thoughtful gift for craft enthusiasts or woodworkers wanting to try the Japanese style of wood carving.
Inside the box you'll find:
9mm spoon gouge, 9mm straight chisel, 9mm angled chisel, made in Japan

Michihamono EZ Care Sharpening Set is an easy-to-use honing and sharpening system designed for wood and lino carving tools. It includes:
Sharpening Cloth: An abrasive-impregnated cotton cloth that provides an ultra-fine finish roughly equivalent to an #8,000 grit whetstone.
Shaped Wooden Block (Plate): Features multiple profiles—including flat sides, curved edges, and bevelled/angled profiles (such as 45° and 60°)—to match V-gouges, U-gouges, and flat chisels.
The E-Z Care Set is ideal for beginners as there is a lower risk of rounding or damaging the blade edge compared to a traditional whetstone. It works directly out of the box and avoids the mess of slurry or separate honing compounds.
Care Tip: Do not wash the cloth, as water or soap will wash away the embedded polishing abrasive. Clean it only with a dry cloth if needed.
